Rejoice, Dumpling Lovers: A New York Favorite Is Coming Back, In A Splashier Setting

(Forbes)

In May, fans of Chinese soup dumplings literally wept to hear that Nan Xiang Xiao Long Bao had closed.

The unassuming Flushing, Queens restaurant was a destination for adventurous diners.

They would wait in line to nab its Shanghai-style xiao long bao, better known as soup dumplings because of the warm liquid that accompanies the filling, usually made from pork and crab.

At the time, it seemed like rising rents and a shortage of workers were to blame, factors that have led to the closing of other small food businesses.

But, that apparently was a ruse.

Nan Xiang Xia Long Bao is coming back, the restaurant announced Wednesday.

“We are excited to open our doors at One Fulton Square and usher in the next era of Nan Xiang Xiao Long Bao in a beautiful space that celebrates our history and heritage while also allowing us to provide an elevated level of service,” said Eddie Zheng, general manager of Nan Xiang.
